Grand Canyon National Park
Located in the badlands of the Four Corners of Arizona, the Painted Desert is a protected wilderness between the Grand Canyon and Petrified Forest. The majestic desert is made up of finely grained rock layers of siltstone, mudstone, shale, limestone and volcanic ash resulting in dramatic topography and vivid colors, from lavenders to shades of gray and vibrant reds, orange and pink. Stretching over 160 miles, this barren expanse of badland hills and buttes is a breathtaking landscape of a rainbow of colors.
